Black Hole Collisions , Analytic Continuation , and Cosmic Censorship

چکیده

Exact solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations that describe moving black holes in a cosmological setting are discussed with the aim of discovering the global structure and testing cosmic censorship. Continuation beyond the horizons present in these solutions is necessary in order to identify the global structure. Therefore the possibilities and methods of analytic extension of geometries are briefly reviewed. The global structure of the ReissnerNordström-de Sitter geometry is found by these methods. When several black holes are present, the exact solution is no longer everywhere analytic, but less smooth extensions satisfying the Einstein equations everywhere are possible. Some of these provide counterexamples to cosmic censorship.

Cosmic Censorship in Quantum Gravity

We study cosmic censorship in the Reissner-Nordstrom charged black hole by means of quantum gravity holding near the apparent horizons. We consider a gedanken experiment whether or not a black hole with the electric charge Q less than the mass M (Q < M) could increase its charge to go beyond the extremal limit Q = M by absorbing the external charged matters. If the black hole charge could excee...

Testing cosmic censorship with black hole collisions.

There exists an upper limit on the mass of black holes when the cosmological constant Λ is positive. We study the collision of two black holes whose total mass exceeds this limit. Our investigation is based on a recently discovered exact solution describing the collision of Q = M black holes with Λ > 0. The global structure of this solution is analyzed. We find that if the total mass is less th...

Cosmic Censorship, Area Theorem, and Self-Energy of Particles

The (zeroth-order) energy of a particle in the background of a black hole is given by Carter’s integrals. However, exact calculations of a particle’s selfenergy (first-order corrections) are still beyond our present reach in many situations. In this paper we use Hawking’s area theorem in order to derive bounds on the self-energy of a particle in the vicinity of a black hole. Furthermore, we sho...

Tests of Cosmic Censorship in the Ernst Spacetime

The Ernst spacetime is a solution of the Einstein-Maxwell equations describing two charged black holes accelerating apart in a uniform electric (or magnetic) field. As the field approaches a critical value, the black hole horizon appears to touch the acceleration horizon. We show that weak cosmic censorship cannot be violated by increasing the field past this critical value: The event horizon r...

The third law of black hole thermodynamics is violated in the test fluid approximation for the process of phantom energy accretion onto a rotating or an electrically charge black hole. The black hole mass is continuously decreasing but the angular momentum or electric charge is remaining constant in this process. As a result, a black hole reaches the extreme state during a finite time with a th...
